Case Study: Retail and Commercial
EDF Energy

EDF energy factory

The brief

EDF's West Burton B is one of the UK's largest Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Stations. It prides itself in being a big part of its community and in playing a critical role in meeting the country's energy needs.

GCL, as part of their role in supporting West Burton B with its Access and Inclusion Strategy, were asked to carry out an Access Review of the station's visitor facing areas, including its interactive visitor centre.

Our approach

  • GCL reviewed access for disabled visitors of all visitor facing areas of the station
  • GCL provided CPD accredited Access Training to key station personnel

What the client said

"Whatever the reason for visiting the station, we want as many people as possible to have insight into what we do at West Burton B and how we do it. We understand that power stations might not be perceived as the most accessible places for disabled people and they can present unique challenges, but also real opportunities.

The review carried out by GCL was really positive and very informative. It has really helped us in identifying what more we can do to improve access for disabled people and given us greater confidence in what access information we provide and how we provide it."
