The brief

Hertford College is committed to maximising the access of the college to all learners, staff and visitors. Hertford College is the successor of two medieval halls of the University of Oxford, Hart Hall and Magdalen Hall, and a previous 'Hertford College' which existed from 1740-1816. The college wanted a credible and realistic Access Delivery Plan to improve the accessibility of the site whilst also paying due regard to the site's historical and architectural importance.

Our approach

GCL undertook an Access Review of the main site and supported the college's leadership team to devise, develop and implement an Access Delivery Plan. This included:

  • Access reviewing the main site, key teaching and residential areas
  • Providing key college personnel with CPD accredited access training Supporting the college to further develop its disability confidence policies, practices and procedures

What the client said

"We are really pleased with what GCL have produced for and with us. From day one they understood what we were trying to achieve and some of the unique challenges the college presents for many. GCL were really easy to work with and the whole process was both enjoyable and productive, leading to a robust and realistic way forward for further increasing the access of the college for disabled people."
