Ensuring that places and spaces are designed, built and maintained for all is a critical element in achieving this.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for Estate Managers, Building Managers, Facility Managers and anyone responsible for ensuring organisational spaces and places are as accessible and inclusive as possible.

Course overview

This 3.5-hour interactive session will look at how those responsible for places and spaces can champion and embed inclusive design principles and ensure a methodical approach to delivering and sustaining inclusive environments.

The session will explore:

  • Key terms and principles around Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Design
  • The moral/ethical, legal/reputational and business case for inclusive environments and why they are critical to organisational development and success
  • The legislative, statutory/non-statutory, regulatory and best practice landscapes and how they fit together
  • Roles, responsibilities and getting the governance right
  • The key stages of inclusive design in the environment and delivery e.g., RIBA Plan of Works and the Inclusive Design Overlay
  • Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Method Statements and the role of facility management in championing and maintaining inclusive environments
  • The inclusive spaces and places toolkit and what good looks like
  • Next steps and success criteria
